Deep Sea Fishing in Myrtle Beach
One of the many activities you can do while on vacation
in Myrtle Beach is deep
sea fishing. You can charter your own boat to go out off the shores
of Myrtle Beach, or you can share a boat with others. Either way,
deep sea fishing is a great way to enjoy
a day in Myrtle Beach.
There are two basic types of deep sea fishing. These are trolling
and bottom fishing. The type of deep sea fishing you decide to do
dictates what kind of boat you should take to go deep sea fishing
in Myrtle Beach.
Trolling is also known as game fishing or sport
fishing. Trolling involves pulling live or artificial bait on
a line from the back of your boat. Your bait should be positioned
so that it glides through the water on or just below the surface.
The boat does not move too fast, so fish can still catch the lure.
Trolling uses a moving lure because it is used to catch predator fish
such as marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi and king mackerel. Myrtle Beach
trolling boats generally only hold 6 passengers, but some can carry
up to 16 people.
With bottom fishing the bait is weighted down and lowered to the bottom
of the water. This is used to catch fish that typically feed on the
bottom, such as snapper, triggerfish and grouper fish. Bottom fishing
can be done from most types of boats, but they are generally done
from Head Boats or Party Boats. These boats are bigger and can hold
more passengers. You can charter these boats in Myrtle
Beach for large groups, or you can join another group and pay
per person.
Sport fishing boats are usually rented out in Myrtle Beach on a private
charter basis. A private charter means an individual or a group has
chartered an entire boat for a specific date and time and trip and
paid a charter rate for the boat for the trip.
