An Overview of Myrtle Beach Golf Courses

With Myrtle Beach now home to over 100 golf courses, it can be hard to decide which golf courses to play and which to pass on while on your golf vacation. Myrtle Beach boasts many signature courses designed by top course designers and pro golfers, and with the great climate you can play golf year round. Overall, you really can’t go wrong on any Myrtle Beach golf course, but here is a quick overview of some golf courses that shouldn’t be missed.

Barefoot Resort features 4 courses by four high profile designers: Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Davis Love III and Greg Norman. Pete Dye and Tom Fazio are widely recognized as being the top two golf designers worldwide. Davis Love has arrived on the course scene with a bang and Greg Norman has quickly developed a reputation as a quality course designer.

Caledonia Golf and Fish Club is one of the most prized courses in the area. You can tell it was once the site of an old rice plantation from its beautiful décor and gorgeous antebellum style clubhouse overlooking a majestic lake.

Crow Creek is built on a 500 acre homestead and was designed by Rick Robbins, a former design associate of the world famous Jack Nicklaus design company.

Diamond Back Golf Club opened in 1999 and was the first course in Myrtle Beach to use Jensen ultra dwarf greens! It was designed by Russell Breeden in a modern style that befits the location.

Ocean Ridge Plantation has three golf courses with a fourth course on the way. Lion’s Paw, Panther’s Run and Tiger’s Eye are all situated at the northern end of the Grand Strand. It’s a little out of the way of downtown Myrtle Beach, but it is well worth the trip.

Prestwick Country Club is located at the southern end of Myrtle Beach. It has a largely wooded setting and is similar to other Pete Dye designs from other parts of the country.

Tru Blue is a challenging golf course for many people. For some it is just about trying your best, and enjoying the course. If you like a difficult golf game then Tru Blue is for you.

Wild Wing Plantation has four golf courses: Avocet, Falcon, Hummingbird and Wood Stork. Each course offers challenging golf with excellent course upkeep all year round. At 6,853 yards, the Hummingbird course is more for shot makers where positional play is more important than length.

Wherever you go to play golf in Myrtle Beach, you are sure to have a great time. So go out there and hit the links!
