Hilton Head vs. Myrtle Beach
Hilton Head and Myrtle beach are located very close to one another,
and although there can be rivalry between the two, they actually
make a very good team. Although both areas are beautiful tourist
destinations, they have different qualities. Hilton head is known
as a very posh area, while Myrtle Beach has the reputation of being
more laid back. Although posh means beauty, it can also mean uptight.
The two towns are known for golf,
but while Hilton Head is better known for its restaurants, Myrtle
beach is a popular place for those who enjoy an exciting night
life.
Hilton Head Island is a town located on an island of the same name
in Beaufort County, South Carolina. The town occupies most of the
land area of the island,
but is not coterminous with it. There is a small part near the main
access road from the mainland, William Hilton Parkway, which is
not incorporated into the town. Hilton Head therefore has a slightly
higher population and a larger land area than the town. Hilton Head
Island is just north of Savannah, Georgia, and just south of Charleston,
South Carolina. The island features twelve miles of beachfront on
the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular vacation destination.
Hilton Island is served by the Savannah-Hilton Head International
Airport and by the Hilton Head Airport, which is on the island.
Hilton Head Island is famous for its excellent golf courses and
each year hosts the Verizon Heritage Classic Tournament, which is
played on the Harbor Town Golf Links in Sea Pines Plantation.
Although Hilton Head is known mainly as a tourist destination, it
is home to many native islanders, made up of African American communities
that have lived on the island for generations and other groups who
have migrated from northern states. Hilton Head is classified by
the U.S. Census Bureau as part of the Hilton Head Island-Beaufort
Micropolitan Area, which includes Beafort and Jasper Counties.
Myrtle
Beach is also located in South Carolina in a region known as
the Grand Strand. It stretches from Georgetown, South Carolina to
Little River, South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is the largest community
in The Grand Strand, a major tourist destination along the South
Atlantic seaboard of the United States. It is widely known for its
wide beaches, selection of challenging golf links, excellent seafood
restaurants, and outlet-style shopping activities. For this reason,
the Myrtle Beach area attracts over fourteen million visitors a
year.
Myrtle Beach is often referred to as a camp for adults because you
can ride bikes, golf, play tennis, and swim.
Some people prefer the high-end living style of Hilton Head, but
go to Myrtle Beach to let loose and have a good time. Myrtle Beach
is associated with golf and a good time. With a white stretch of
beach and a public access path on every block, Myrtle Beach is open
to everyone.
